Alicia Silverstone reprising Clueless character in Paramount+ sequel

Alicia Silverstone is officially reprising her breakout role as Cher Horowitz but this time, as a mother to a teenager, in the Paramount+ sequel series to Clueless set 30 years after the original film.

The 49-year-old nineties icon, who boasts 3.4 million Instagram followers, captioned the announcement with a heart-eye emoji and a yellow heart on Thursday.

Silverstone also shared a gif of her character pulling gum out of her mouth during a debate at the fictional Bronson Alcott High School in Beverly Hills, California.

‘Beloved Beverly Hills icon Cher Horowitz has figured out a lot,’ the official logline read.

‘She’s successful in business and has mastered motherhood – that is, until her daughter’s high school years, and Cher finds that parenting a teenager makes her feel “clueless” all over again.’

Production is set to begin next year in Los Angeles on the follow-up to the 1995 cult classic rom-com, which was originally inspired by Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma.

Executive producers on the project include the two-time Daytime Emmy nominee, Jordan Weiss, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage as well as original writer-director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Silverstone’s reps for comment but did not immediately hear back.

The Paramount+ project will be different than the Peacock reboot, which was scrapped last year after the Cali-born blonde wrote she was ‘Totally buggin’… in the best way.’

‘I can’t wait to step back into Cher’s skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used of course, d’uh because she’s evolved…She’s not wearing the new stuff unless it’s sustainable or vegan. We’ll have to see how far we can go with that,’ Silverstone – who went vegan in 1998 – told ET last year.

‘I never thought that that was something I would ever do because I wouldn’t want to mess up this thing that we all love so much. So we will do our very best to honor the original movie that we love and also bring something new to it.’

The Golden Globe nominee did get a chance to play Cher again in 2023 when shopping rewards company Rakuten hired her to star in their 30-second Clueless-themed commercial, which aired during the Super Bowl LVII.
