Simone Biles reveals she always carries ’emergency’ anxiety medication

Simone Biles has revealed she keeps ’emergency’ anxiety medication on hand in her travel bag just in case she experiences sudden panic before or during flights. 

The 29-year-old Olympic gymnastics icon shared the admission in a video posted to her Instagram on Sunday, where she walked fans through the contents of her bag. 

‘I also have my emergency anxiety meds, which, there’s a story behind that… [they’re] just in case I get nervous on flights or before flights,’ she explained.

Alongside her medication, the seven-time Olympic gold medalist showed off a wide array of travel essentials in the video, including an extra phone and make-up items.

The update comes just weeks after Biles stunned fans in early June by revealing she had been rushed to the hospital following a life-threatening medical emergency.

In a post on her Instagram story, alongside a pH๏τo of her wearing several hospital wristbands, she wrote: ‘I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age.

‘But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week. This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices.

‘I’ve been in bed resting this week, I’ll explain sooner or later but s/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers.’

In a further post, she shared a pH๏τo of herself lying in bed with her dogs, alongside the caption ‘I’ll be here’ and a screensH๏τ of an extremely elevated resting heartbeat. She has vowed to explain fully what happened to her when she is ready.

At the end of June, Biles fired back at Instagram trolls who appeared to question the severity of a mystery illness after she went on vacation weeks after ‘almost dying.’

She shared pictures on Instagram with her fans showing her and Owens, who plays for the Indianapolis Colts, soaking up the sun, while she also gave them an update on how she was feeling during a TikTok video. 

Then, last week, Biles revealed she was back in hospital for a medical procedure.

Last Thursday, the 11-time Olympic medalist shared a selfie to her Instagram, wearing a hospital gown alongside her husband, NFL safety Jonathan Owens.

Despite undergoing an undisclosed procedure, the 29-year-old appeared in good spirits as she cracked a joke about Owens having to spend his 31st birthday at her bedside.

‘His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure,’ Biles captioned the picture.

Meanwhile, Biles, the most decorated American gymnast of all time, has previously been open about her struggles with mental health and performance anxiety.

During the 2024 Olympics, Biles candidly shared how overwhelmed she felt in the Olympic village – revealing that her anxiety got so intense that she was visibly shaking in the cafeteria and ended up stocking up on food in her room to avoid crowds.

At the time, she explained on TikTok: ‘I have not done much around the Olympic Village and it’s because the first day we got here, I got to the cafeteria and a lot of people were asking me for pH๏τos – my anxiety was so bad I was shaking.’
